Blogger Appreciation Day (Unofficial)
Apr 14th, 2008 by spaceagesage
My industrial engineering brother once told me that employees often prefer real, honest appreciation to a raise. Who doesn’t like hearing that they have value and worth to another person? Sara Paddison, author of Hidden Power of the Heart, writes, “Appreciating each other is a true family value, one that will bail out much of the stress on the planet and help strengthen the universal bond all people have.”
In an effort to help boost blogger energy everywhere, Darren Rowse — the Problogger — announced that he is unofficially making Monday, April 14th a day to show your favorite bloggers a little bit of appreciation.
He writes, “We’re in it together, blogging is about collaboration and together going further than we can by ourselves – so why not help another blogger today by shooting them a word of encouragement, a pep talk, a congratulations, an idea to help them improve or some other positive constructive message. Better still, do it publicly on your blog and tell the world about another blogger who you appreciate.”
Random acts of kindness can be fun, but so can some planned ones! Here are the blogs that have recently helped me, changed me, or made me laugh:
Thanks to Darren for this idea and for his great information-laden site Problogger.
Thanks to Leo Babauta at Zenhabits.net, who is helping me overcome clutter and more!
Thanks to Doug Savage’s “cartoons on sticky notes” at Savage Chickens, who sees life at some odd, but very funny angles.
I also plan to drop a few lines in the comment sections of a few blogs on Monday, because I know comments can help make someone’s day. Appreciation fuels more than a warm, fuzzy feeling, it boosts confidence, creativity, community, and more.
There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread.

Good post – and snap – I’ve just written on the same subject on a newly formed blog virtualvortex; also enjoyed the minimalist insights of Zen Habits but not yet see Savage Chickens….
