Words have a life of their own. They can stir thoughts, emotions, ideas, or war. Our world is defined by them and our relationships rise and fall with them. At the same time, though, they are so flexible that they can burst onto the scene or fall out of use.
The American English language is a wonderful, flexible and curious thing. Sometimes I see patterns in it that strike me as funny or insightful. Today I discovered that many of the positive character traits valued by most of us start with the letter ‘C:”
- CIVIL
- COMMITTED
- COMPASSIONATE
- CONCERNED
- CONSIDERATE
- CONFIDENT
- CONSISTENT
- CONTENTED
- COURTEOUS
- COOPERATIVE
- COURAGEOUS
- CAPABLE
- CHEERFUL
- CLEVER
- CAREFUL
- CALM
- CANDID
- CONSCIENTIOUS
- CURIOUS
- CLASSY
- CONGENIAL
- CREATIVE
Wow. Wouldn’t it be nice to have all those tucked away in our personalities?
