Writing is more than words
Apr 21st, 2008 by spaceagesage
Someone recently noticed how involved I get when writing a post, and she said, “You really like writing don’t you?”
Who me?
Anyhow I thought about it and here are some reasons why I write:
- Self expression — Everyone has a unique viewpoint based on experiences, and I like to write about mine.
- Creativity — I like to create with words. They each add a flavor and texture of their own. Weaving or crafting them together is very satisfying for me.
- Mental venting — My mind has chewed on some ideas and needs to download them.
- To help — My words may be able to change a mind or a heart in a positive way.
- Clarify thoughts — Writing helps capture thoughts and pin them down more clearly.
- To generate feedback — I may get input from my audience in a mutually beneficial back and forth flow of information and ideas.
- Presenting a person or idea — Not everyone or every idea gets a chance to be heard, and I can help bring those stories alive.
- Escapism — Whether I write fiction or write in a blog, I get to shut out the world for awhile.
- Communication — I can connect with others in a way that creates community or that can enhance understanding not otherwise gained from solitary research.
This list contains just some of the benefits and reasons I write. There is also the enjoyment I get out of seeing my writing look good visually, as on a blog or in a newsletter, and — someday — in a hard cover book. I like clicking on the “Publish” button, knowing my blog writing is done and going live. I also like discussing something I wrote with my husband and then see him apply it. As with any creation from the heart, I guess you want it to do well and make a difference.
How does writing benefit you?
SELF ANALYZATION
I guess when i write i do it selfishly for myself. I want to analyze my actions, my character, my faults, in order to tweak them and become a better person overall.
eduardoestrelladr — Thanks for the input! I don’t think self-improvement or self-exploration is necessarily selfish, but I agree writing can improve a person in lots of ways.
Many times your writing helps me to clarify my thoughts on life and personal situations or sparks a different way to
view both. Thank You.
Auntie M — thanks for the comment. Clarity is always good!
writing is an expression of the mental state …
wanderer77 — I like the way you sum up with brevity!
