Creating a mindset for change
Apr 28th, 2008 by spaceagesage
Creating new changes within ourselves is very much a topic for self-help author Louise Hay. In her book, You Can Heal Your Life, she includes two lists, one negative and one that turns the negative around. Here is the negative:
- My life is a mess
- I should lose weight
- Nobody loves me
- I want to move
- I hate my job
- I should get organized
- I don’t do enough
- I’m not good enough
Hay turns these around to a more affirming, positive mindset. Here are some affirmations she might advocate:
- I am willing to release the pattern in me that created these conditions
- I am in the process of positive changes
- I see myself in a happy, slender body
- I experience love wherever I go
- I have the perfect living space
- I now create a wonderful new job
- I am now very well organized
- I appreciate all that I do
- I love and approve of myself
- I trust the process of life to bring me to the highest good
- I deserve the best, and I accept the now
Hay adds, “Out of this group of affirmations will come all the things you want to change … they will create organization … loving relationships … attract a new job and a new place for you to live. It is miraculous the way we can demonstrate our desires.”
When I first read her book, I thought the affirmations were silly, but I picked a few that I have on my wall and that I surround myself with daily. One is, “I rest securely knowing that only right action is taking place in my life at all times.” A second one is, “I am willing to change!”
Amazingly, I do feel my life is changing in the direction of my affirmations and I do have a more positive mindset. I am committed to change in a big way, so I buy into the affirmations with my whole heart. I grew tired of being who I was, filled with self-limiting thoughts, and I embrace a more positive and genuine self.
What do you think of affirmations to create a mindset for change? Do you label them just “feel good positive thinking” that is too Pollyanna to be effective or have they helped you create a mindset for change?
In my experience, affirmations are far more than just “feel good talk”. I’ve literally reprogrammed my life using a simple system of affirmations, and I believe anyone else can do the same.
The fact is, when we repeat statements to ourselves with conviction and authority, we program our minds to begin manifesting these things. In the same way a person who continually says “oh I’m so stupid I can’t believe I did that” is doing him or her self harm, the individual who says “I make sound decisions and learn something new every day” is laying the foundation for real, positive progress.
You have some good content on this blog. I look forward to reading more. :o)
Path To Abundance — The power of words is indeed far more than we know! Research into the brain and the subconscious is just starting to reveal this. Thanks for stopping by and reading.
I recently chose and printed a few key affirmations and put them where I see them every day. But some days I look at them, feel like thay are so not happening, and get VERY discouraged. Any advice for feeling positive when I’m not really feeling positive?
By the way, I love your blog and your quotes come straight from my list of favorite authors. Thanks for taking the time to write!
