BlackBeltSage blog is born!
May 21st, 2008 by spaceagesage
In keeping with my own need to change and grow as a writer and person, I just started a second blog, BlackBeltSage, here at WordPress. As I say in the About section:
Self defense can be mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. BlackBeltSage is about defense against criminals, abusers, control freaks, bullies, narcissists, and even our own inner doubts — just about anything or anyone who tries to stop us from becoming stronger, healthier, and wiser.
As a senior martial arts instructor who started training during college in 1981 and who holds a second degree black belt in tang soo do and a third degree black belt it tae kwon do, I write about self defense mainly for non-martial artists. In the first series of posts I will write about Awakening Your Inner Warrior with intuition, awareness, body language and voice, boundary setting, and getting off the “attack track.”
I hope you never need to know what I teach, but it may save your life some day!
Interesting – and good luck with the new blog.
Sounds like a similar approach to the book I mentioned a while back I’d been editing with Rodney King – do you know of him and his work at all?
Joanna
Thanks, Joanna. I have seen Mr. King’s online information, but that is all. He seems to have transitioned into the essence of the martial arts with a solid marketing package. This is outstanding because it allows him to get the message out to more.
At their core, the martial arts — taught correctly — have always developed body, mind, and soul into a stronger being. The stair-step level of advancement and the metaphors within the process of training challenge and encourage students into making positive changes. “Can’t” turns to “can.” Conflict turns to peace. Tough-heartedness turns to strong-mindedness. I am glad Mr. King can bring this to many students and clients.
BlackBeltSage is mainly for the non-martial artists, for those who choose not to train. You don’t have to be a black belt to out wit a criminal. You don’t have to train for years in the karate studio to understand and defuse violence before it erupts. You don’t have to punch a heavy bag daily to develop mental toughness. My job with BlackBeltSage will be to give readers a powerful set of tools they need to keep safe and thwart danger.
Oh boy! I’m going to take a peek at it now. 🙂
DICWGravy — Thanks!
