As an undergrad student at a large university, things got tough for me at times. Between school, family and work pressures I noticed that my mood turned to one of negativity and frustration. When offered help I would say (as you stated) "no thanks. I got it covered." Which in retrospect was a mistake...
In any case, I always found shelter in two things: reading a good book & running (especially running &/or basketball). It gave me the space to think clearly about everything. For that moment that moment in time when I was running, I was free...I could think clearly. Anyway, it gave me the clarity to focus on the core issues that were inspiring my negative thoughts.
My point is, if we can find a way to see what the root of the problem is, we can deal with it appropriately.
