Aren’t you curious?
Oct 12th, 2008 by spaceagesage
I was borne with curiosity coursing through my veins, filling the marrow of my bones, and firing the neurons in my brain. Becoming a news reporter helped ease the addiction for knowing more answers, and the Internet helped me almost satiate curiosity’s hunger … almost.
How curious are you as a person?
Does curiosity tickle at you to stop and listen to its questioning nature?
Do you ask the big and little questions enough to keep life fresh, vibrant, and filled with wonder?
Wikipedia says of curiosity:
Curiosity is an emotion that causes natural inquisitive behavior such as exploration, investigation, and learning,
Eleanor Roosevelt said of it:
I think, at a child’s birth, if a mother could ask a fairy godmother to endow it with the most useful gift, that gift should be curiosity.
Here’s Albert Einstein’s take on it:
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.
Curiosity
- Opens the brain and heart to possibilities

- Helps us see around corners
- Launches us into unknown worlds
- Explores all What ifs?
- Irrepressibly fires the imagination
- Builds the future from thought
- Reveals the wonders of the mundane and the exotic
- Creates visions and dreams
- Helps us explore ourselves and our world
Without curiosity, I become a drudge, a cog, a dutiful doer of deeds.
With curiosity, I see the world anew.
Without curiosity, I assume things about a person or situation.
With curiosity, I open my mind to other motivations and insights.
Without curiosity, I stay stuck in the status quo.
With curiosity, I explore new options.
Without curiosity, I wither among the facts, the statistics, and the expected.
With curiosity, I can see beyond all of these to a new way of thinking.
Without curiosity, I trudge along looking for the next road marker.
With curiosity, I hear the call of the wild hills, I see the places off the beaten track, and I strike out into new territories.

Give into your curiosity about one or two things this week. Explore new places, spaces, or faces. Feel the excitement of exploring!

My basic philosophy starts with curiosity:
“Stay curious and open to life. No matter what happens keep learning and growing. Find what you love to do and find a way to share it with others.”
Thanks for asking!
I wonder what will happen to me if I am no longer curious. It is my curiosity that drives me to pick up a diverse range of interests and read a wide range of books. Life may just turn dull for me, if otherwise.
LIfe would be just plain boring and not worth living without curiosity. I think that curiosity, imagination and creativity go hand-in-hand.
Michael Gelb writes in his book “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” that one of the characteristics that made Leonardo a genius was his curiosity. He was constantly trying to figure out how things worked, conducting experiments, observing, and asking questions.
Hi SpaceAgeSage – I’m forever analyzing the hows and whys of situations, but on some issues, I’m content just knowing that’s the way it is. I guess it depends on how important the issue is to me.
I tend to be curious about people, so I ask them questions about themselves and their lives. Anybody and everybody. Cab drivers are great for learning things from! I know exactly what it takes to become a cab driver in Ottawa. I know what challenges a newcomer to Canada faces from talking to cabbies. Amazing what you can learn if you just ask!
