..
This month is National Family Caregivers Month. In honor of the month, a wonderfully caring blogger, Linda Abbit, of TenderLovingEldercare.com, interviewed me about caregiving. As some my readers know, I’m the main caregiver for my mother who lives with my husband and me.
Please drop by Linda’s blog to read the post and browse around to learn more about eldercare. Linda is fast making her mark in this blogging niche and would love to have help spreading the word about giving tender loving care to aging parents.
Linda recently wrote a 4-part series on how to communicate with aging parents. The four posts offer excellent information, especially since many of us may be visiting family this upcoming holiday season. Here are her links to those posts:

Part 1: Think Before You Speak
Part 2: Speaking Easily About Difficult Topics
Part 3: Dealing with Pessimistic Aging Parents

Dear Lori,
What a beautiful quote — I may have to use it on my blog in the future. 😉
Thank you for making the interview so authentic and moving, for the time you put into answering my questions, and for helping spread the TLeC message.
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy 80th birthday to your Mom!
I loved the interview. I thought it was interesting and inspiring.
Both you and Linda are amazing.
Hi Lori: I left a comment over at Linda’s blog but I’m not sure if it erased or if it’s in moderation. Basically I said that my grandfather died of Alzheimer’s so I know what it’s like to watch someone you love deteriorating day by day. Also, there’s a study called the Nun Study where a group of nuns has been studied for several years. Most of them stay mentally fit well into old age by keeping mentally active (lots of activity like knitting, puzzles, reading, writing, and so on), having strong social bonds, and keeping a positive attitude toward life.
Hi Linda,
Thanks, Linda!
Hi Vered,
Linda is a sweetheart, isn’t she? I’m glad to have found her blog.
Hi Marelisa,
Yes, saw and responded to your reply at Linda’s blog. The Nun study is interesting, but my mom doesn’t like to socialize or do puzzles. Fortunately, she does have a very positive and upbeat attitude most of the time.
I am a care giver to my wife of 40 years who has had multiple cardiac and cerebral infarcts. I know what it is all about and am glad that you have shared. The quote is wonderful. Immediately after I finish commenting I intend visiting Linda Abbit’s blog. Thanks for the pointer.
Hi rummuser,
Sorry to hear about your wife, but I’m glad you are there for her. My mother’s stroke created what I thought was a large cerebral infarct, but amazingly her physical health is still good.
Enjoy Linda’s blog!
