Imagination and discovery
Nov 19th, 2008 by spaceagesage
My favorite photographer captured this close-up of a blotchy fall cottonwood leaf. I’m mesmerized by the fine connecting lines amid the earthy tones. Looking at it takes my mind back to fanciful, youthful imaginings about treasure maps, ancient puzzles, and the mysteries of life. Nature has a way of creating fresh, yet ancient, wisdom within its shapes and colors.
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For while knowledge defines all we currently know and understand, imagination points to all we might yet discover and create.”
~Albert Einstein
What keeps your imagination healthy and well fed? What have you discovered recently — A new insight? A new hobby? A new perspective on life?

I have actually discovered a new insight recently. I was answering an online questionnaire. One of the questions: would you marry your spouse all over again? I didn’t even need to think about my reply. OF COURSE I would! It felt really good to realize how happy I am with my choice of life partner. Interestingly, up until that point, I never really stopped to ask myself that question.
It’s not only wonderful, and delightful to watch. It is a beautiful example of Fractal Maths. WOW! I believe that to have a healthy imagination we need to drink a lot of water, eat healthy, ask questions, daydream with a purpose, and try to live without stress.
[…] hat tip […]
I love to read and that keeps my imagination going. I just finished a book called “Designated Daughter: The Bonus years with Mom” by D.G. Fulford with Phyllis Greene. I give it a two thumbs up. Check it out, Lori. We’re both Designated Daughters fyi.
Hi Vered,
Isn’t it nice to have such an upwelling of inner confirmation? I’m happy you have such a relationship in your life.
Hi Lina Ru,
Welcome! Thanks for commenting. The trying to live without stress part is rather tricky!
Hi Linda,
I’ll have to check that out! Reading helps me keep the brain and imagination on track, too.
Lori that is such an absolutely beautiful photo. It’s just as well that imagination is more important than knowledge, because my imagination works a bit overtime!
I watch DVDs while I exercise and I’ve been noticing what grabs my attention and what doesn’t. I’m also watching some that I watched several years ago and am noticing what I remember, what I’ve forgotten and what I remember incorrectly. It’s a fun way of noticing how my mind works.
My latest discovery is blogging. I have been posting blogs since early June and have built up a fairly good and regular readership. I also visit most of the blogs of the regular readers and comment on them. This has enabled me to widen my horizons as it were and helped discover new ways of looking at the world.
One of my favorite bloggers Jean Browman, who has commented here, has been a great inspiration.
Hi Robin,
I like filling my screen with that image — it’s just that fascinating to me. My imagination works overtime now and again, but usually the practical world interrupts me.
Hi Jean,
That’s an interesting way to research — and fun, too!
Hi rummuser,
Early blogging is so much exploration and discovery, isn’t it?
Hi Lori. That is an unbelievable photograph! I think my imagination keeps me healthy and well fed rather than the other way around 🙂 I have trouble keeping up with it.
Hi, Davina –
I’m trying to strengthen that in myself. I’m glad it works for you!
