I guess the idea of “living like you are dying” is so those boxed in by limitations can free themselves of them for awhile — kind of like near-death experiences do for some people. If I pretended I had only a few weeks or months to live, I might start doing things like traveling, or whatever, things I KNOW are not in my best interests at the moment - I would always be out of touch with myself, and therefore be always on the back foot.
